An increasing world population, finite natural resources and the economic and environmental challenges of the 21st century require innovative chemical engineering solutions at a global scale.

Chemical engineering and related sciences play a key role in addressing society’s future needs by advancing sustainable process industries, energy transition, circular economy, bioeconomy, digital transformation, materials and education, while developing products and solutions that support water, food, health, wellbeing and environmental protection.

Vision

To be a worldwide organisation qualified to identify, respond to and add value to global issues, opportunities and obligations facing the chemical engineering profession, the industries served by chemical engineers and the societies they impact.

Mission

WCEC provides frameworks and forums for the discussion, development and dissemination of information, knowledge and recommended actions on global issues where chemical engineering plays an important role.

WCEC focuses on:

  • global economic, environmental, societal, and technical issues where chemical engineers and the chemical engineering profession play an important role;
  • issues of importance to the education, employment and professional and career development of chemical engineers; and
  • issues relevant to the contributions of the chemical engineering profession and the industries which it serves.

WCEC aims to:

  • Strengthen international cooperation among chemical engineering federations and societies.
  • Promote chemical engineering as a key discipline for addressing global challenges.
  • Support world and regional congresses as platforms for scientific and professional exchange.
  • Encourage education, professional development and ethical practice.
  • Recognise excellence and leadership through global initiatives such as the WCEC Awards.
  • Increase the visibility and impact of chemical engineering worldwide.
